This workshop facilitated by Fr. James M. Bowler, SJ will explore the Third Week of The Spiritual Exercises as the passion of Christ according to Ignatius. We will begin with a parsing of the text followed by its purpose for the person making The Exercises. Next, through exploring the concepts of the paschal mystery and kenosis, we will move to the archetypal dimension of this movement as a phenomenon at the core of Christian anthropology and cosmology. Finally we will reflect on how this archetypal phenomenon relates to John of the Cross’s DARK NIGHT and James Fowler’s Stage V of his Faith Development Theory.
