MEET OUR DIRECTORS

The Emmaus Center for Spirituality offers experienced, trained spiritual directors who have agreed to abide by our Community Covenant and Code of Ethics.

Marilyn Borrelli graduated from the four-year Fairfield University Spiritual Direction Program in 2017.  Marilyn sees individuals for spiritual direction, as well as, directing groups.  Marilyn is a retired nurse, having practiced for 43 years and now stays involved with St. Matthew Catholic Church's various ministries.  She has a special interest in helping refugees and other underprivileged individuals.  She is also a member of Spiritual Directors International.  Marilyn is currently not accepting new directees.

Sheila Burroughs is a spiritual director formed through the Fairfield University program and is a member of Spiritual Directors International.   During her 26 years working in a corporate role, Sheila developed an appreciation for the challenge of integrating spirituality with work and daily life.  She is delighted to offer spiritual direction to deepen an awareness of God’s presence in everyday life.  Her interests include centering prayer and the power of integrating silence and pause into daily life.  She is a wife and mother to two teenage daughters.  Reach Sheila Burroughs directly at:  Sheila.burroughs@hotmail.com or 704-577-5110.  

Cindy Correll is a graduate of Fairfield University's four-year Spiritual Direction Formation Program. She is available to meet with those who seek to find God in daily life and to deepen their relationship with Him through individual spiritual direction and guided retreats. Cindy is a member of Spiritual Directors International. As an RN she always felt drawn to the spiritual side of care and healing; and she feels called now to companion others on their spiritual journey in life through the ministry of spiritual direction.  Eileen Crusan has more than 13 years’ experience as a trained spiritual director and eight years’ experience as a trained supervisor of spiritual directors.  She completed a four year formation program in spiritual direction, graduating from Villa Maria Education/Spirituality Center.  She completed her supervisory training through Together in the Mystery Program, a supervisory program affiliated with San Francisco Theological Seminary.  Eileen also serves as a faculty member with the Spiritual Direction Formation Program currently sponsored by Fairfield University and as an instructor with the Together in the Mystery supervisory program.  She is trained in Ignatian spirituality and offers the experience of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.  In these days of the pandemic, she continues to offer spiritual direction, supervision and the Spiritual Exercises via phone or Zoom.  She is a member of Spiritual Directors International.  Contact Eileen at: holyground@carolina.rr.com.

Deborah Delano received her formation as a spiritual director at the Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center.  She currently serves as a faculty member for the Fairfield University Spiritual Direction Formation Program, and is a member of Spiritual Directors International.  Deborah was first drawn to the ministry of spiritual direction through her own experience of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, and she continues find Ignatian spirituality a wellspring of joy and blessing. She has worked for over thirty years in the corporate world where she has learned first-hand to “find God in all things.” Deborah is an enthusiastic student and teacher of the Enneagram, a powerful tool for deepening self-awareness on the spiritual journey.  She loves to explore the many dimensions of spirituality using Jungian and depth psychology, poetry, literature, and art.  Reach Deborah Delano directly at: sparrowabbey@gmail.com.

Lori Eichel serves as a spiritual director in Chapel Hill, NC at St. Thomas More Catholic Community and Newman Catholic Student Center. She is a graduate of Fairfield University’s four-year Spiritual Direction Formation Program. Lori is also trained in offering the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, Group Spiritual Direction and Eight Day Ignatian Guided Retreats through the West Virginia Institute of Spirituality. Lori feels privileged to companion seekers of all faiths on their journey to develop a deeper relationship with the God of their understanding. She offers spiritual direction in person, via Zoom, FaceTime or phone. Retired after over 35 years in the business world, Lori now divides her time between spiritual direction and her work as a textile artist. Antoinette Okala Enohmbi serves as a spiritual director in Charlotte, NC and is an active member of Spiritual Directors International. Antoinette holds a B.A. degree in Psychology.  Her perspective and understanding of God’s love and presence is built from her personal life experiences, her work as a counselor and special-education teacher and her completion of the four year Fairfield University Spiritual Formation program. In addition, she has a strong background in Ignatian spirituality and serves as a mentor with the Spiritual Direction Formation program currently sponsored by Fairfield University. Antoinette is open and available to journey with individuals who are seeking a deeper and more personal relationship with God and want to find God’s presence within them and in their daily life. Dr. Bill Fleming  is a spiritual director living in Waxhaw, North Carolina.  His insight into spirituality comes from forty years of pastoral experience in Presbyterian churches, serving as a hospice chaplain, and teaching spiritual formation and pastoral studies at Charlotte Christian College and Theological Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina. He manages a resource website on spiritual formation called faithmatrix.com, and has written several books, blogs, and articles. 
Bill graduated from the Spiritual Direction program at Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta. He is currently a member of Spiritual Directors International and the Evangelical Spiritual Directors Association.  Bill offers spiritual direction with groups or individuals through phone, Skype, or in person. Ann Gray serves as a spiritual director in Charlotte, NC. Ann received her training through the four-year, Fairfield University Spiritual Direction Formation Program. In addition to spiritual direction, Ann is passionate about her work in the community through her involvement in jail ministry. Following a rewarding career in education, Ann sensed an invitation to share with others her deep and abiding relationship with God and God’s active presence in her life. Maria Griffin serves as a spiritual director in Charlotte, NC.  She is a graduate of Fairfield University’s four-year Spiritual Direction Formation Program and is trained in offering the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.  She has also graduated from the Together in the Mystery supervision program in June, 2020.  She has participated in numerous ministries at St. Matthew including Living Your Strengths, Called and Gifted, CRHP and has served as a catechist for 6 years.   Maria is available for one-on-one spiritual direction or individual supervision.  Maria is a member of Spiritual Directors International.  Reach Maria Griffin directly at:  mariagriffin1213@gmail.com.

Dr. Becky Grisell is a trained spiritual director.  She holds a doctorate in Leadership and Spiritual Formation as well as a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from Portland Seminary in Portland, OR.  Becky is also founder and curator of Cascade Ministries. Her approach to spiritual direction is holistic, addressing the brokenness of life while focusing on the hope of the Gospel. She places high value on being a safe person and creating a safe and sacred space to explore and connect with God’s activity in life.  Becky considers the space created in spiritual direction and the time together sacred. Ann Hatton serves as a trained spiritual director in Charlotte, NC.  She is a graduate of the Fairfield University's Spiritual Direction Formation Program.  Ann's formation is in Ignatian based spirituality.  She is available to journey with individuals or small groups who are seeking a deeper awareness of the Divine Mystery within them and around them and where this Divine Mystery intersects with their day to day lives.  Ann is available to meet in person, via phone, and Skype/Facetime or Zoom.  She is a member of Spiritual Directors International.   Reach Ann Hatton directly at:  ahatton.seekeroflight@gmail.com or 704-668-1865.

Debbie Kane is a trained spiritual director and retreat guide. She is a graduate of Fairfield University’s four-year Spiritual Direction Formation Program and a member of Spiritual Directors International.  She has been privileged to walk with people on their spiritual journey for 7 years. Debbie worked in the corporate world for 30 years before retiring and answering the call to become a spiritual director. She is actively involved at St. Matthew Catholic Church and is passionate about feeding the hungry and walking with men and women on their spiritual journey to grow closer to God.   Debbie is available for one-on-one spiritual direction and guided retreats in individual and group formats. Karen Scully is a spiritual director in formation through Fairfield University’s four-year Spiritual Direction Formation Program. After retiring from a career in medicine, she and her family moved to Charlotte where they became parishioners of St. Matthew Church.  Karen became a pastoral care minister and also became involved in the Special Religious Education (SPRED) program at St. Matthew. SPRED welcomes those with intellectual and developmental challenges into full participation in the faith community of St. Matthew. The goal of SPRED is to help children as well as adults increase their awareness of God in their lives, as well as develop an awareness of themselves as an integral part of the parish community. Karen offers spiritual direction to all who are interested in deepening their relationship with God in their day-to-day lives, and also offers spiritual companionship to those with intellectual challenges. She also has a Master’s degree in Ethics and is a member of Spiritual Director’s International. Dave Shumway ​is a trained spiritual director having graduated from the Fairfield University's four year Spiritual Direction Formation Program. Dave is an active member of Spiritual Directors International. Originally raised Protestant, Dave entered the Catholic Church through the RCIA program at St. Matthew Catholic Church, where he now serves as an active parishioner. While Dave practices spiritual direction in Charlotte, NC, he has worked with directees from other locations via interactive social media and teleconferencing. Chaplain Larry Watts is a trained spiritual director.  He is a graduate of Fairfield University’s  four-year Spiritual Direction Formation Program.  He holds graduate degrees in theology, gerontology, and counseling from UNCC, Emory University, and Columbia Theological Seminary. Christina Wilking  serves as a spiritual director in Charlotte, NC.  She is on staff at a large church as an assistant to the Senior Pastor and as a spiritual director.   Christina is a graduate of the Fairfield University’s Spiritual Direction Formation Program.  She is an active member of Spiritual Directors International and the Evangelical Spiritual Direction Association.  Christina is available to sit with individuals who want to grow and deepen their relationship with God.  She offers spiritual direction in person, by phone or Skype/Facetime.  Reach Christina Wilking directly at:  cfgwilking@gmail.com or 980-233-1466
